Visit the ‘Greatest Fjords of Norway’ all in one holiday with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

For 2015, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ guests will have the chance to experience the very best fjords of Norway on Boudicca’s nine-night ‘The Greatest Fjords of Norway’ cruise, D1520, which departs from Newcastle on 11th September 2015.

This cruise holiday was inspired by Fjord Norway’s 2013 online photo competition, entitled ‘Best of Fjord Norway’, which saw over 6,000 images entered and judged by Norwegians, to compete for a place in the ‘Top 10 Norway Fjord Experiences’. http://www.fjordnorway.com/en/Corporate/Newsletter/Fjord-Norways-ten-best-experiences-have-now-been-chosen/

Nathan Philpot, Sales and Marketing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“We are very proud of our scenic fjords cruises, with our proud Norwegian heritage, and what better recommendation could there be for the best places to visit in our historic homeland than from the very people who live there.

“We have worked closely with our Captains and Intercoastal Pilots, who, with their expert knowledge, help us to showcase what Norway is all about – diverting our ships into the smaller, more restricted fjords – and have come up with this magnificent cruise for our guests to marvel at and enjoy.”

Boudicca’s first port of call is Kristiansund, home to Norway's scenic and world-renowned ‘Atlantic Road’. Guests can explore Kristiansund’s Maritime heritage with a walking tour through the cobbled streets, where they will pass many impressive Hanseatic buildings. Alternatively, cruise guests can take a fantastic trip to Grip Fisherman’s Island, home to Norway’s smallest stave church.

Boudicca will then take a scenic cruise to the remarkable UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord. Here, guests will have a morning to explore this quaint village and its impressive surroundings, before arriving for the afternoon in Hellesylt, a small fishing port with thundering waterfalls and traditional Norwegian houses.

Picturesque Olden is the next call on this ‘Top 10 Fjord Norway’ cruise. A charming village, Olden is set amongst green meadows coated with bright flowers, with streams and brooks surrounding the traditional houses. Guests can enjoy a tour of the Briksdal Glacier, either by foot, boat safari or electric car, or take a peaceful cruise on Olden Lake.

After cruising through Nordfjord, Boudicca stops in Skjolden, where cruise guests are sure to be captivated by the unspoiled and beautiful town, with its stave church decorated in unusual and intricate markings.

Boudicca will then spend time cruising through the peaceful waters of Nærøyfjord; the narrowest fjord in the world, stretching just 250 metres across, at certain points. With mountains towering more than 1,700 metres above its tranquil waters, this area has been inhabited for about 10,000 years.

The cruise then arrives in Bergen; this beautiful town is framed by seven magnificent hills, the highest of which can be reached by funicular railway. Guests can choose to visit one of the many authentic restaurants, the famous fish market or enjoy views of the historical Hanseatic buildings.

After some spectacular scenic cruising through Hardangerfjord – the second longest fjord in Norway and third in the world, with a depth of 800 metres in some places – Boudicca arrives in Eidfjord, a small village, where popular pastimes include kayaking, hiking and cycling.

Guests can then enjoy more scenic cruising, as Boudicca passes Lysefjord, Preikestolen – also known as 'Pulpit Rock' – and Mount Kjerag – 'Mountain Bolt' – before setting sail for Newcastle.

Prices for ‘The Greatest Fjords of Norway’ cruise start from just £999 per person, based on two adults sharing a twin, ‘Inside’ cabin, and include accommodation, all meals and entertainment on board, and port dues.

Fred. Olsen is proud to be the only UK travel company to receive a coveted ‘Gold Award’ from leading consumer review website Feefo, having achieved a 95% service rating of 'Excellent' or 'Good' in over 5,600 genuine, independent guest reviews in 2013.

Fred. Olsen was also delighted to be voted ‘Best Affordable Cruise Line’ and runner-up ‘Best Cruise Line’ in the ‘Cruise International Awards 2013’, and ‘Best Value for Money’ in the Cruise Critic ‘Editors’ Picks UK Awards 2013’.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
