Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Borealis celebrates two years of sailing

Today marks two years since Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Borealis departed Liverpool on her maiden voyage.

Borealis was purchased in the summer of 2020, along with sister ship Bolette, as Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines looked to strengthen and evolve ahead of its return to cruising.

Smaller shipBorealis, always carries less than 1,400 guests and brought several new venues and facilities to the Fred. Olsen fleet, including a grand, two-tier theatre and main restaurant, an all-weather pool with retractable roof, a large spa and thermal suite and new venue The Auditorium offering live culinary demonstrations and more.

Two years ago today, on 5th July 2021, Borealis departed Liverpool on her maiden voyage, taking guests to enjoy scenic cruising around Scotland.

Since then, Borealis has sailed to fascinating destinations around the world, including her recent Around the World in 80 Days cruise, which followed in the footsteps of fictional character Phileas Fogg. During this cruise, guests circumnavigated the world enjoying scenic cruising along the world-famous Suez Canal, witnessing Japan's the cherry blossoms in full bloom, enjoying the street food of Hong Kong and experiencing a taste of paradise in Hawaii.

In the two years since her maiden voyage, a variety of brand new spaces have been incorporated, including the Olsen Art Studio, a designated space for arts and crafts, and in 2023, a new selection of longue spaces were introduced for guests to enjoy including the Botanical Room and the Earth Room.

Peter Deer, Managing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“We’re incredibly proud of all the ships within our fleet and to celebrate two years of Borealis’ sailings is a wonderful milestone for us all. From her shorter voyages to her world cruises, she offers an incredible way for our guests to see the world.

"We believe that seeing the world from the water is the best way to experience the joy of the journey, and in these past two years, Borealis has offered some spectacular scenic cruising and memorable experiences for our guests all around the world.

"Here’s to many more years of happy sailing and welcoming even more guests on board.”
