'Braemar' Caribbean Update - 02.03.20

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines can confirm that guests who were aboard its ship Braemar, as part of the ‘Eastern Caribbean’ fly-cruise, are in the air to the UK today, Monday 2nd March 2020, on two chartered flights from St Maarten.

Guests from La Romana, Dominican Republic are now safely on board Braemar, and the ship has set sail for Port Royal, Jamaica.

Both operations were subject to significant delays due to continued controls put in place on St Maarten. We would like to apologise to all our guests for the inconvenience that this has caused.

On 27th February 2020, Braemar was unable to begin disembarkation operations in La Romana. We believe that this was as a result of a small number of influenza-like cases on board.

No guests or crew are, or have been, displaying symptoms that are considered to be consistent with those of Coronavirus.

With regards to the ongoing cruise itinerary for Braemar, this is currently being finalised and will be confirmed to guests in due course.

Fred. Olsen has been working hard to resolve this situation for guests as quickly as possible, which included sending a team from UK Head Office to the Dominican Republic to offer support and assistance in the hotels. Fred. Olsen staff will also be on hand at the UK airports to assist and support guests when they arrival later today.

The safety and well-being of all our guests and crew is our number one priority and we are monitoring closely the developing COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus situation and taking the latest advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and World Health Organisation, as well as Public Health England and CLIA.

As a precautionary measure, for some time Fred. Olsen has been operating a raised level of sanitisation across its fleet, in addition to health questionnaires and non-invasive screening measures for guests embarking and re-joining the ship from overland tours, and for ship visitors.

Fred. Olsen’s cruise ships meet, at all times, the highest safety, hygiene and health standards.
