Braemar to discover lost lands of Prussia in latest cruise to be teased from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 2022 programme

Holidaymakers looking ahead to their travels have an early opportunity to book on a 10-night voyage of cultural discovery, with Braemar to set sail to the lost lands of Prussia in August 2022.

Among the many highlights will be the chance to explore two former Prussian capital cities. From Baltiysk, guests can venture to Kaliningrad. The city was once known as Königsberg and was birthplace of the first King of Prussia and the capital of Prussia from 1525 to 1701.

While Travemünde offers explorations of Berlin, with the city boasting the Brandenburg Gate, built by Prussian king Frederick William II as an entrance to the city. Here, guests will also find numerous palaces that were once home to Prussian royalty, such as Frederick the Great’s opulent Sanssouci Palace.

Braemar will also call into Szczecin in Poland, which was a major port in Prussia, and Gdańsk, where guests can visit the UNESCO-listed Malbork Castle, the largest castle in the world and built by the Teutonic Order in the 13th Century after the conquest of old Prussia.

Plus, those who book before 29th January 2021 will enjoy up to £150 per person to spend on board.

Martin Lister, Head of Itinerary Planning and Destination Experience at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“This is set to be a really immersive, cultural sailing aboard our wonderful Braemar, taking our guests on a journey through the rise and fall of the vanished kingdom of Prussia.

“At its peak, Prussia once included half of Poland and almost all of Germany, and while it was abolished in 1947 there is still some fascinating evidence of its existence remaining, which our guests will have the chance to explore for themselves.

“This 10-night cruise visits lesser known places off the beaten tourist track, allowing time and space to absorb the history within the palaces and other significant sites without being crowded by thousands of other cruise guests.

“It will culminate with a scenic transit of the narrow Kiel Canal, through the German countryside, passing through the locks and cruising under the low bridges, showcasing small ship cruising at its finest.”

Details of this cruise are as follows:

Braemar’s 10-night M2223 ‘Revisiting Prussia’ cruise, departing from Edinburgh (Rosyth) on 19th August 2022. Prices start from £1,499 per person, with up to £150 per person to spend on board for bookings made by 29th January 2021.

Ports of call: Edinburgh (Rosyth), Scotland – Szczecin, Poland – Gdańsk, Poland – Baltiysk (for Kaliningrad), Russian Federation – Sassnitz, Rugen Island, Germany – Travemünde, Germany – Kiel Canal Transit – Edinburgh (Rosyth), Scotland

This is the fifth itinerary to be released from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 2022 programme, and follows on from the launch of a 15-night ‘Rugged and Remote Spitsbergen’ cruise aboard Balmoral for that June; a 19-night ‘Canada in the Fall’ cruise aboard Borealis and a 28-night ‘Black Sea Discovery with the Mediterranean’ sailing aboard Balmoral, both in September, and the 101-night World Cruise aboard Borealis setting sail in January of that year.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will release its entire 2022/23 programme for its new-look fleet in March.
