Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Borealis follows in footsteps of Phileas Fogg as she sets sail on ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ adventure from Southampton

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Borealis has set sail on her ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ voyage from Southampton, an adventure following as closely as possible in the footsteps of fictional character Phileas Fogg.

Following her departure from Southampton, Borealis will arrive in Lisbon on 26thFebruary, before making calls in to Brindisi and Port Said in Egypt where guests can visit the Tomb of Tutankhamun on the 100th anniversary of its opening before heading on to circumnavigate the globe.

During the 79-night exploration, guests will cruise the world-famous Suez Canal, be able to explore the majestic temples of Luxor and Karnak in the Egyptian port of Safaga, visit the secret bazaars, hidden temples and the lesser known Elephanta Caves in bustling Mumbai or, in Singapore, witness the indigenous wildlife and the UNESCO-listed World Heritage Botanic Gardens.

From Singapore, there we be calls in to Japan in time to witness the cherry blossoms in bloom, delve in to the Samurai heritage at Fukuoka and Osaka Castle; experience the temples, street food and architecture of Hong Kong or enjoy a taste of paradise in Hawaii with its authentic farmers’ markets and traditional Hawaiian dance shows.

Martin Lister, Head of Itinerary Planning and Destination Experience at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“The departure of a world cruise is always incredibly exciting, but this one is especially so as our guests will be reliving the journey of the famous fictional explorer Phileas Fogg.

“This global adventure has been hand-crafted by us to allow our guests to experience some truly remarkable worldwide events, including the 100thanniversary commemorations at the Tomb of Tutankhamun or witnessing Japan’s beautiful cherry blossom in bloom.

“This really is set to be an exploration of a lifetime, and I’m so excited to be able to share it with our guests on-board.”

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
