Set sail on a fascinating journey through the centuries as Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines launches ‘Discovering the Balkans’ cruise for 2022

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is offering the chance to join Bolette for a fascinating journey to the Balkan peninsula in 2022, with the new ‘Discovering the Balkans’ cruise available to book from today.

Fred. Olsen’s new flagship, Bolette, will set sail from Southampton on the 18-night voyage on 14th June 2022, with the cruise combining hidden gems with more popular destinations, exploring the centuries of civilisations that have shaped the area as it is today.

The sailing includes a maiden call for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines to the town of Neum in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where opportunities to discover the historic village of Počitelj and the reconstructed Ottoman bridge Stari Most await. At Kotor in Montenegro – another maiden call – guests will enjoy sailing into the bay, regarded as one of the most beautiful port entrances in the world.

Guests who book by 29th January inclusive will also enjoy up to £250 per person to spend on board.

Martin Lister, Head of Destination Experience and Itinerary Planning, said:

“This is set to be a truly immersive and rewarding itinerary, taking guests on an insightful journey through the centuries.

“Every destination on this cruise has historical significance in shaping the Balkans as we know it today, with ancient structures, ruins and archaeological finds all telling the story of how various empires battled for control of the region, and the influence they had upon this.

“It also offers opportunities to explore some lesser-known destinations, such as Durres in Albania and Kotor in Montenegro, as well as Neum in Bosnia and Herzegovina, all of which are steeped in fascinating history.

“Other highlights include the chance to explore Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, protected by the centuries-old city walls, or a visit to the ruins of Diocletian’s Palace found in the heart of Split.

“This sailing has been made possible by the faster speeds of Bolette, allowing us to call at a number of fascinating destinations in this wonderful part of the world, in just 18 nights.”

Details of this cruise are as follows:

Bolette’s 18-night T2213 ‘Discovering the Balkans’ cruise, departing from Southampton on 14th June 2022. Prices start from £2,799 per person.

Ports of call: Southampton, England – Cartagena, Spain – Cruising Strait of Messina – Kotor, Montenegro – Dubrovnik, Croatia – Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina – Split, Croatia – Durres, Albania – Cruising Strait of Messina – Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy – Tangier, Morocco – Southampton, England

This is the sixth itinerary to be released from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 2022 programme, and follows on from the launch of a 15-night ‘Rugged and Remote Spitsbergen’ cruise aboard Balmoral for that June; a 10-night ‘Revisiting Prussia’ cruise aboard Braemar in August; a 19-night ‘Canada in the Fall’ cruise aboard Borealis and a 28-night ‘Black Sea Discovery with the Mediterranean’ sailing aboard Balmoral, both in September, and the 101-night World Cruise aboard Borealis setting sail in January of that year.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will release its entire 2022/23 programme for its new-look fleet in March.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
