Dedicated Liverpool volunteers recognised in our Cruises for Community Heroes

Hundreds of people nominated in our Community Heroes giveaway who make a difference in their communities in Liverpool have been whittled down to 30 winners.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines partnered with the Liverpool Echo to run a competition where readers could nominate their deserving community heroes to win a cruise on board Borealis departing from Liverpool.

From setting up mental health charities and foster carers to community workers and dedicated volunteers, 30 deserving winners have been chosen.

Among the winners was Debbie Rogers, CEO and founder of Sean’s Place which provides mental health support in memory of her brother Sean.
She said: “I was absolutely overwhelmed to receive the call to say I had won a cruise. I thought it was a scam and nearly hung up the phone. When I found out it was some of our amazing members of Sean’s Place who nominated me, I was brought to tears.”

Sue and James Roche, who have fostered 17 children over 15 years, were also winners. They said: “We’ve not been away together without any kids since I don’t know when, so it will be a really nice change.”

Franny Briggs has been recognised for his community work in Kirkby. He said: “I was over the moon when I found out that I’d won. I’ve never won a prize before. We’re going on the eight-day cruise to Iceland.”

Peter Deer, Managing Director of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“Following the launch of our Cruises for Community Heroes campaign, we have been overwhelmed by the fantastic local stories of selfless deeds.

“We are thrilled to have been able to recognise 30 of Liverpool’s unsung heroes who make a real different in their local community. For some it’s dedicating their entire lives to charitable work, for others it’s fundraising thousands of pounds or setting up organisations that can help save lives.

“We hope all the winners enjoy some time for themselves and have a wonderful break on board one of our cruises.”

The winners will all enjoying setting sail on a variety of cruises exploring destinations including Norway, Greenland, Iceland and the Azores.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
