Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Celebrates 20 Years of Sailing from Liverpool with a spectacular flash mob choir

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines marked two decades of sailing from Liverpool with a surprise celebration at the Cruise Liverpool terminal.

Guests were treated to a spontaneous performance from enchanting flash mob choir A Handbag of Harmonies choir, organised in collaboration with Cruise Liverpool and paying homage to the cruise line's 20 years of sailing from Liverpool.

A Handbag of Harmonies, known for their captivating performances that blend joyous melodies and spirited choreography, serenaded the cruise terminal as guests checked in for an eight-night scenic summertime Norwegian fjords cruise on board Borealis.

Peter Deer, Managing Director of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“This heart-warming celebration not only commemorates Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' remarkable journey from Liverpool over the past two decades but also highlights the company's deep connection with the local community.

“Over the 20 years of sailings on the Mersey, we have formed a strong bond with the city of Liverpool and its residents, and we have received unwavering support throughout our journey.

"The A Handbag of Harmonies flash mob has been a vibrant expression of our gratitude towards the city and its people, who have embraced us with open arms since the beginning. We also thank Svitzer for the fanfare tugs which added an extra element of excitement to the proceedings. We are proud to be part of Liverpool's maritime heritage and look forward to many more years of delivering exceptional cruise experiences."

The collaboration between Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Cruise Liverpool has been instrumental in creating an enduring partnership that has contributed to the maritime culture of the city. The flash mob choir event captures the spirit of unity, celebration, and shared memories that characterise this remarkable relationship.

Liverpool City Council’s Head of Cruise Operations, John Mawer, said:

“We are extremely proud of our 20-year maritime alliance with Fred Olsen Cruise Line and their ships are a regular, welcome visitor to the Mersey.

“The cruise line plays a central role in the positioning of Liverpool as a home port for regional departures. Here’s to the next 20 years!”

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
