Press release -

Celebrate the 'Wedding of the Decade' with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines!

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is preparing to celebrate the ‘big day’ of Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29th April 2011, as guests on board its four cruise ships get into the spirit and join in the festivities from various parts of the world:

Balmoral L1102   –  in port in Cadiz, Spain until mid afternoon, then cruising
to Lisbon, Portugal
Boudicca  D1107   – at sea, cruising from Leixoes, Portugal to Liverpool
Braemar M1108   – at sea, cruising from Ponta Delgada, Azores to Dover
Black Watch W1104   – at sea, cruising from Southampton to Lisbon, Portugal

Fred. Olsen is producing a special four-page preview newspaper for guests with all the latest news leading up to the big event, which will be followed by a souvenir edition on the day of the wedding itself, which guests can keep as a memento of their special day on board.

There will be extensive live coverage of the ‘Wedding of the Decade’ across the Fred. Olsen fleet via BBC World, and all the TVs in the public areas on board will  be tuned into the celebrations for the duration of the day.

The Royal nuptials will be commemorated in a variety of ways on board: there will be a special Gala Wedding Dinner, featuring Baked Alaska ‘Catherine’ as a dessert, with a souvenir menu produced for guests to take home with them; a specially-created champagne cocktail, ‘Royal Honeymoon’, to toast the happy couple; a special promotion of Pimm’s No. 1 Cup, that quintessentially British ‘tipple’; and ‘Royal Wedding’ cake to be served with afternoon tea.

There will also be Royal-themed quizzes on board, and the lounges and public areas throughout the ships will be decorated with red, white and blue bunting and balloons to give them that patriotic feel. Some ships will be featuring a Grand Tea Dance with a regal flavour, and will put on a Royal Wedding-themed crew show and Royal Wedding Party Night.

It is certain that, given guests’ usual enthusiasm for flag-waving and celebrating ‘British’ Red, White and Blue Nights on board, 29th April 2011 is sure to be a day to remember with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines!

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
