Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ newest Captain sails into his home town for first time since promotion

Captain Davor Dubravica, of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, has sailed into his hometown of Rijeka for the first time on board flagship Bolette, during her maiden call to the city.

The ship’s guests, crew and Captain were welcomed into the city by the Rijeka Port Authority and local media during the 26-night scenic exploration of the Adriatic and Dalmatian coast cruise.

After starting his career with the cruise line in 2013 as Safety Officer, Captain Dubravica was later promoted to Chief Officer and in May of this year, was proudly promoted to Captain.

Captain Davor Dubravica, of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

"Today is such a proud moment for me to be sailing our flagship Bolette on her maiden call in to my hometown of Rijeka for the first time as a Captain. I started my sea career 23 years ago as an 18-year-old deck cadet on a Croatian ferry departing from Rijeka and now, I am sailing Bolette into Rijeka as a Captain.

“This is a lifetime memorable event for me, and I would like to thank all my teams on board, shore side and the Rijeka Port Authority for making this possible. “

As part of Bolette’s Adriatic adventure, guests have also stopped at Fusina to experience Venice, as well as Koper in Slovenia. The rest of the voyage will see guests enjoy an itinerary including Neum in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kotor in Montenegro, Durres in Albania, Gibraltar and La Coruna, Spain, before returning to Southampton on 14th October.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ smaller ship Bolette, can accommodate up to 1,338 passengers and boasts a variety of on board experiences, dining venues, longue spaces and entertainment.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
