Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines welcomes ‘Little Skippers’ on board

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has launched a new kids club on board its fleet of four ships – Balmoral, Braemar, Boudicca and Black Watch – called ‘Little Skippers’. Parents and grandparents can leave their children in the care of the qualified hosts and hostesses, who – during peak holiday seasons – will arrange a variety of family-orientated activities, including arts and crafts sessions, deck games, treasure hunts, quizzes, cookie and pizza making in the Galley, games evenings, swimming classes and much more.

'Little Skippers' is run by qualified children’s hosts, whose passion is to come up with creative and exciting ways for children to get the most out of their cruising experience. Depending on the age groups, there will be a ratio of one adult to every six or eight children, as per recommended guidelines.

Neil Herbert, Head of Sales at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“We welcome many multi-generational families on board our ships, and we appreciate that it can be difficult to find a holiday to suit all ages. We are therefore very happy to be unveiling our ‘Little Skippers’ club. Parents or grandparents can indulge in a spa treatment, relax by the pool, or sip on a cocktail in the lounge, safe in the knowledge that their children will be looked after by our team of creative and professional hosts.”

On board, an itinerary for the 'Little Skippers' club will be released each day in a dedicated children’s programme, and will include a schedule of activities, facts, jokes, port information and even a ‘Mock-tail of the Day’!

Unlike many other holiday companies, whose prices rise significantly during the school Summer holidays, Fred. Olsen has created a special great-value offer on its August sailing to ‘Spain, Portugal & the Canary Islands’ aboard Balmoral, which includes calls into seven destinations, all meals, entertainment, accommodation on board and a host of activities for all the family.

Details of this cruise are as follow:

Balmoral’s 15-night L1618 ‘Spain, Portugal & the Canary Islands’ cruise, departing from Newcastle on 12th August 2016. Prices start from £2,296 for a family of four in an ‘Interior Room’.

Ports of call: Newcastle, UK – La Coruňa, Spain – Leixoes (for Oporto), Portugal – Funchal, Madeira- Santa Cruz, Tenerife – Las Palmas, Gran Canaria – Arrecife, Lanzarote – Lisbon, Portugal – Newcastle, UK

Fred. Olsen has also arranged a wide variety of family-friendly shore tours for guests to book, such as: a 'La Coruňa by Segway' tour; a 4x4 jeep safari in Madeira; whale-watching in Santa Cruz, Tenerife; a day trip to discover the wildlife at Palmitos Park; kayaking and bicycle rides in Gran Canaria; and a submarine safari, or a chance to spot white tigers and crocodiles, at Rancho Texas Park, in Lanzarote.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has defined and redefined the cruise experience, and judging by the number of passengers that come back time and again, we seem to have styled it to perfection

The company originated in Hvitsten, a small town on Oslofjord in Norway, in 1848 when three Olsen brothers – Fredrik Christian, Petter and Andreas – bought their first ships and began an international shipping company.

Now into the fifth generation of the family, they operate companies skilled in various aspects of the cruise and passenger shipping trade as well as aviation, ships’ crewing, shipbuilding and offshore industries.
Aside from the transportation industries, the Fred. Olsen group also has interests in the luxury hotel sector, estate management, property development, and electronics companies.

Offices for the company are spread throughout the world, although the company headquarters remain firmly in the family’s hands in Oslo and Tenerife. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is based in Ipswich in Suffolk.
