Press release -

Fred. Olsen guests raise nearly £11,000 for the RNLI at historic 'Captains in Cádiz' event

Guests aboard Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ four ocean ships - 'Balmoral', 'Braemar', 'Boudicca' and 'Black Watch' - raised nearly £11,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution ('RNLI'), at its ‘Captains in Cádiz’ fleet get-together in Cádiz, Spain, on 10th September 2018.

Fred. Olsen's 'Captains in Cádiz' celebrations featured a number of exciting activities and festivities inside the port and throughout the city of Cádiz, including a colourful 'Quayside Fiesta'. Hosted by Fred. Olsen's enthusiastic crew members, the Fiesta featured a range of fun fairground games, such as 'Hook a Duck' and 'Bat the Rat'. Fred. Olsen's 4,000 guests were encouraged to purchase tokens to stand the chance to win a number of prizes and raise funds for the RNLI. The sale of these tokens alone raised an impressive £10,800 for Fred. Olsen’s leading corporate charity.

Thomas Rennesland, Hotel Operations Director at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“This is a fantastic amount to raise in just a few hours, and goes to show the immense generosity of our guests, who always get behind our fundraising for this important charity.

“With our operations being based at sea, our long-standing partnership with the RNLI remains something of which we are extremely proud and remains at the forefront of our charitable efforts.

“This really is the icing on the cake, adding to what was already an incredible day for all involved at the Port of Cádiz.”

Catherine Kaye, Corporate Partnerships Manager for the RNLI, said:

“We’re so grateful for the generosity of Fred. Olsen’s guests in raising such a fantastic amount for us.

“This money will go towards the total for the new Relief Atlantic 85 lifeboat that Fred. Olsen are fundraising for this year for us. This lifeboat will help our volunteers to save lives at sea and assist people when they most need it.

“We’re really pleased that Fred. Olsen’s 170th anniversary celebrations went well, and we would like to thank them for their continuing support.”

This was only the second time that Fred. Olsen's entire ocean fleet has reunited, anywhere in the world, and the historic 'Captains in Cádiz' event was held to mark the company’s 170th anniversary.

Fred. Olsen will be holding its third fleet get-together - named 'Four Fred.s in Funchal' - in Funchal, on the 'Garden Island' of Madeira on 4th April 2020, when guests will once again be encouraged to help to raise funds for the RNLI.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
