Lifetime achievement award for Nigel Lingard
After 32 years’ tirelessly promoting travel by sea, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ retiring Sales and Marketing Director, Nigel Lingard, has been recognised with a lifetime achievement award – the Passenger Shipping Association’s (PSA) annual ‘John Lancaster Smith Award’.
One of the industry’s most respected and charismatic advocates, Nigel was presented with the prestigious award at the PSA’s annual dinner at The Dorchester, London on 1st December 2011, in the presence of more than 430 guests and representatives from the cruise, ferry and travel industry.
William Gibbons, Director of the PSA, said:
“Nigel has been unstinting in his enthusiasm for raising the profile of cruising with both consumers and the travel trade. It is a great honour to present this prestigious award to Nigel in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the development of passenger shipping.”
Nigel began his career within the travel industry in 1979, when he joined Swedish ferry company, Tor Line. He then moved to Salen Linblad Cruising and then to Scandinavian Seaways, before joining Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in 1988. During his time with Fred. Olsen, the company has expanded considerably, from the original Black Prince to four cruise ships sailing today, carrying nearly 100,000 guests a year.
Nigel has held numerous roles within the passenger shipping industry, including board member of the European Cruise Council, serving on various ABTA committees and as past Chairman of the PSA.
