Press release -

Make it a Mediterranean Medley this Summer with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Braemar - M1110 and M1113

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is well-known for operating a great choice of cruises from the UK, so you can reach your sunshine destination without any of the hassle of flying, and no restrictions on that summer wardrobe!

Braemar has two early summer cruises to the Mediterranean, with some very attractive ports of call.  M1110 ‘Spanish Springtime’ is a 14-night cruise, departing from Dover on 14th May 2011.  The first port of call is IJmuiden (for Amsterdam), before Braemar reaches her first Spanish port, the attractive town of Vigo.  The old quarter, with its fishermen’s cottages, is especially interesting  to explore.  Braemar then sails south, and next port of call is Motril, in the foothills of the Sierra Lujar mountains, an abundant fruit-growing area.  There are two sandy beaches and sheltered coves, making it an excellent centre for swimming and diving.  From here, you can take an optional excursion to Granada, and see the stunning Palace of Alhambra, with its wonderful Moorish architecture and gardens. Next port is Alicante – one of Spain’s most popular seaside resorts – then vibrant, cosmopolitan Barcelona, with its colourful street life, and the famous Gaudi architecture.  After a call into the pretty island of Ibiza – much more than just a party destination – Braemar visits Lisbon, Portugal’s historic capital, on her way back to Dover.

This cruise  has an additional theme of ‘Wine’ through the exclusive’ onboard programme of special interests – The ArtsClub.  This means that there will be a wine expert on board, giving talks and tastings.  There is also an optional extra for golfers – Flagship Golf.  This exclusive package combines four rounds of golf, played ashore, with onboard tuition from a PGA professional, practice sessions and social activity, and is charged at £375 per player (must be pre-booked.)

Prices for this cruise start from £991 per person, based on two adults, sharing an inside twin cabin, Grade ‘I’. Prices include accommodation, all meals and entertainment on board, and port taxes.

Later in the summer,  Braemar again sets sail for the Mediterranean, with her cruise M1113 to Spain and Portugal, ‘Captivating Cities of Iberia’.  This 13-night cruise departs from Dover on 19th June 2011, and calls first at the popular Rock of Gibraltar, with great sight-seeing, unbeatable Duty Free shopping, and the friendly Barbary Apes.  Next is a call at Cartagena, the second largest city in the Region of Murcia, and an important naval station. Vibrant Barcelona follows, with its café society and unmistakable buzz, then sunny Seville, with its grand boulevards, narrow, cobbled streets and pretty squares.  The remaining ports are in Portugal;  Portimao, in the Algarve, with its harbour-side cafés and restaurants, and, finally, elegant Lisbon, the capital.

The cruise returns to Dover, and prices are from £1,334 per person, based on two adults sharing an inside, twin cabin, Grade ‘I’. Prices include accommodation, all meals and entertainment on board, and port taxes.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
