Take a ‘Voyage to the American Deep South’ with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in Autumn 2015

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is offering guests the chance to visit New York, Boston, Nova Scotia, Jacksonville, Miami, Savannah and the Bahamas, all in one fantastic cruise holiday, in Autumn 2015. Balmoral’s 35-night L1517 Voyage to the American Deep South departs from Southampton on 14th September 2015, and includes three overnight stays – in New York, Miami and Charleston – to give guests more time to experience these lively destinations at night. Plus, guests who book a place on this exciting cruise by 22nd May 2015 can choose one free shore tour in New York.

This epic discovery of America and Canada’s east coast also calls at four cities that are new to Fred. Olsen: Charleston – voted one of the friendliest and most charming cities in the USA – Salem, Savannah and Jacksonville.

- Balmoral’s 35-night L1517 ‘Voyage to the American Deep South’, ex Southampton on 14th September 2015. Prices start from £3,599 per person.

Balmoral makes her first call into Sydney, in Nova Scotia, Canada. Home to Gaelic-speaking descendants of Scottish settlers, Sydney is the base from which to explore the Cape Breton Highlands, the Bras d’Or Lakes and the Fortress Louisbourg National Park.

Next stop is Boston. This city, one of the largest on the USA’s eastern seaboard, is compact enough to investigate on foot; the famous Freedom Trail is the best way to discover its historic significance. There is also a wealth of excellent restaurants, superb shopping and, of course, the most famous bar in the world – ‘Cheers’, ‘Where everybody knows your name!’

Balmoral then cruises to Salem, in Massachusetts,a maiden call for Fred. Olsen. The city’s culture revolves around its eerie and intriguing history as the location for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. It was also the setting for the famous ‘Hocus Pocus’ film starring Bette Midler, which will delight those ‘set-jetting’ guests who like to visit famous movie backdrops.

Guests will then be able to enjoy a visit to Oak Bluffs, in the upmarket resort of Martha’s Vineyard, where guests can make the most of sandy beaches or take a ride on the famous Flying Horses Carousel.

Balmoral then arrives in New York, for another overnight stay. This dazzling metropolis, with its statement skyscrapers, yellow cabs and world-famous Times Square, never disappoints! Visitors can lose themselves in the vibrancy of the street life, culture, food and shopping, which are second to none, or they can soak up the verdant splendour of Central Park. Fred. Olsen is offering a wide range of shore excursions in ‘the city that never sleeps’: guests can choose from a ‘New York! New York’ sightseeing tour, which showcases the city’s highlights; a ‘Harlem & Gospel Tour’, where guests will experience a live performance by the ARC Gospel Choir in a local Harlem church; a ‘Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island’ ferry tour, to marvel at this iconic landmark; ‘An Evening on Broadway’ to take in a dazzling show; and even the chance to go and see a New York Yankees baseball game!

Balmoral then makes two further maiden calls. The first is Charleston, in South Carolina, famous for its unique blends of traditional Southern US, English, French, and West African cultures. The ‘Downtown’ peninsula is well-known for its art, music, local cuisine, and fashion and, with an overnight stay, guests can spend the day and evening getting to know this eclectic city. There is also the chance to take a ‘Historic Charleston Carriage Ride’, which is the perfect way to see the highlights of the city and hear about its history from an expert guide. The second new city for Fred. Olsen is Savannah, in Georgia, where guests can enjoy the city's architecture and historic buildings, and experience the Southern charm and hospitality for which the city is internationally renowned.

Guests will then stop in Jacksonville, Florida, the fourth maiden call on this cruise, where guests can relax on the 828 square miles of magnificent golden beach, or take in the mix of modern and traditional American culture in a local restaurant or theatre.

Guests will then call at Florida’s Port Canaveral, where a leisurely walk along the fishing piers or a visit to the Kennedy Space Centre is a fantastic way to spend the day. Guests who are feeling adventurous could also choose to skim across the waters of St. John’s River on a thrilling ‘Florida Airboat Adventure’ tour!

Miami, in ‘The Orange State’ of Florida, is next, where guests will have another overnight stay. There will be plenty of time to take a stroll around the Art Deco buildings on South Beach – its golden era of architecture – or visit Lincoln Road Mall, known as the 'Fifth Avenue of the South'. There is also the opportunity to take a tour to see the exotic wildlife on the subtropical everglades.

This cruise will then make a relaxing stop in Nassau, in the Bahamas; the skyline is dominated by Atlantis, the luxury hotel resort. Take a visit to Fort Fincastle, for wonderful views of the whole island, or simply sunbathe on one of the many paradise-like beaches.

Next is a stop in St. George, in Bermuda. Here, guests can visit King's Square, the undisputed centre, where locals frequently congregate for celebrations, stroll through beautiful Somers Garden, or take a trip to the St. George's Historical Society Museum, a typical Bermudian building, revealing what life was like in the early 1700s.

Balmoral’s final call will bePonta Delgada, capital of the Azores, with its cosmopolitan atmosphere, lush valleys and the stunning crater lakes of the extinct Sete Cidades volcano.

All prices listed are based on two adults sharing a twin-bedded, Inside cabin, and include accommodation, all meals and entertainment on board, and port taxes. Guests can also choose to upgrade to Fred. Olsen’s ‘all-inclusive’ drinks package for just £10 per person, per night*.

Fred. Olsen is pleased to have been awarded the ‘Gold Trusted Merchant’ status by independent review site Feefo in 2015, for the second year in a row. This accreditation is based on genuine customer feedback and, to date, Fred. Olsen has received over 11,000 reviews, with 95% of these being in the ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’ categories.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
