Themed Cruises From Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
Many Fred. Olsen cruises to worldwide destinations offer an extra programme of activities, both onboard and ashore, to enhance the holiday experience. There are three main add-on packages featuring special interests.
Civilisations
Civilisations is available on selected cruises, and offers a chance for a more in-depth understanding and experience of the places visited. Escorted by expert guides and lecturers, it allows travellers to learn more about the history and culture of destinations, and appeals to those who want a more mentally challenging holiday. The programme is now available on all four of the Fred. Olsen ships:- Black Watch, Boudicca, Balmoral and Braemar.
The subjects are many and varied, including ‘Polar History and Exploration’, ‘Coastal Britain’, ‘Colonial Discovery’ and ‘Napoleon’s Empire’. Each cruise is escorted by a dedicated, on-board host, who will help participants achieve greater fulfilment from their vacation and open their eyes to the culture and history of the destinations visited.
The price of the Civilisations package includes all on-board and tours gratuities, meals, specialist lecturers, exclusive privately escorted tours, port and passenger taxes and a beautiful leather-bound journal to record the highlights of the cruise. It is also possible to book for the lecture programme only, at a reduced price, for guests who are interested in the talks, but who do not want to take part in the shore excursions which can sometimes be quite energetic. The ArtsClub
This is a more informal programme covering a vast array of hobbies and pastimes. There is no charge and ArtsClub topics do not have to be pre-booked, guests just join in as and when they choose. Experts in the specific subject will give talks, tuition or workshops throughout the cruise and may sometimes accompany shore tours where relevant.
Subjects include music, dance, musical theatre, comedy, watercolour paining, antique collecting, wine tasting, maritime history, genealogy, wildlife, photography and much more. Although there is no charge for taking part, there may be a small charge for materials in subjects such as painting or wine tasting. ArtsClub themes are featured on selected cruises aboard all Fred. Olsen ships. More information can be found at the dedicated micrositehttp://www.fredolsencruises-artsclub.co.uk/
Flagship Golf
This package is a very popular add-on, available on selected cruises in the Mediterranean, Canaries, Baltic, round the UK, and the Caribbean. The package – priced at £375 per player (£425 on Caribbean fly/cruises) - consists of four rounds of golf ashore played on carefully selected courses, including transfers and green fees, tuition from a resident PGA professional, practice sessions and social activity on board for golfers and their non-playing partners. The Flagship Golf package must be booked prior to the cruise departure.

As well as these specific packages, many cruises offer guest speakers from all walks of life, or feature big names from the world of entertainment. There is a packed programme of activities throughout the day, which is organised by the ship’s own team, and a glittering programme of evening entertainment. So every Fred. Olsen cruise, whether or not it is part of a specific programme, will be a fulfilling and well rounded experience.
