VIPs Celebrate Aboard Fred. Olsen’s Boudicca in Port of Tyne

On Tuesday 4th October 2011, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, in association with the Port of Tyne, welcomed a delegation of VIP guests aboard its elegant 880-guest cruise ship, Boudicca, in  Newcastle.

The VIP guests, who included Alan Campbell, Member of Parliament for Tynemouth, Mary Glindon, Member of Parliament for North Tyneside, and the Deputy Mayor of North Tyneside, Councillor Judith Wallace, were welcomed aboard with a champagne reception in the ship’s Observatory Lounge, hosted by Captain Tom Hansen.  Welcome speeches were given by Matt Grimes, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Director, Planning, Ports and Logistics, and Stephen Harrison, Chief Operating Officer, Port of Tyne, followed by a guided tour of the ship, and an exclusive VIP lunch served in the Tintagel Restaurant on board.

The VIP reception on board Boudicca celebrated the close relationship between Fred. Olsen and the Port of Tyne, with historic links dating back over a hundred years. The cruise programme aboard Boudicca has proved increasingly successful in recent years, as the ship is dedicated to serving a range of regional ports around the UK throughout the year, as part of the cruise line’s  commitment to offering its guests convenient departures close to home.  Four Fred. Olsen cruises are departing from the Port of Tyne in 2011, rising to five for the Summer and Autumn season in 2012.

Following the VIP visit, Boudicca set sail for a 12-night cruise to the Baltic.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
