Press release -

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ flagship Balmoral to set sail from Edinburgh in 2018/19

In 2018/19, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 1,350-guest flagship, Balmoral, will be sailing from Edinburgh (Rosyth) for the first time ever, operating a total of nine cruises. Holidays on offer, from May to July, include a five-night ‘Norwegian Fjords’ departure, a 14-night ‘Scandinavia & St. Petersburg’ Baltic discovery, and a nine-night ‘German Waterways’ experience.

Justin Stanton, Sales and Marketing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“We are proud of Fred. Olsen’s long-standing links with Scotland, and we are looking forward to introducing our flagship Balmoral to Edinburgh in 2018, further enhancing our cruises for Scottish guests.

“The beauty of a Fred. Olsen cruise holiday is that we take people closer to the world’s most beautiful cities and destinations – many of which larger cruise ships cannot reach – and we are pleased to be bringing even more of our cultural and scenic cruise holidays to Edinburgh.

“Our smaller, more intimately-sized ships can call at smaller ports. Guests sailing from Edinburgh will have the chance to experience picturesque rivers, canals, lochs and fjords, as well as port calls right in the heart of destinations, with all the highlights on hand.”

Enjoy scenic sailing from Scotland with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in 2017

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is reinforcing its reputation as the ‘cruise line of choice’ from Scotland, a country that has historically been very close to the Olsen family, with a total of 12 departures in 2017 - four from Glasgow (Greenock) and eight from Edinburgh (Rosyth) - from the comfort of Fred. Olsen’s smaller, more intimate ships, 'Boudicca' and 'Black Watch'.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
