Press release -

Groups celebrate departures from Scotland with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in 2018!

Staff from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines teamed up with the Association of Group Travel Organisers (AGTO) on Friday (1st September 2017) to welcome 30 group travel organisers on board Braemar in Leith, Scotland.

The event, which was the newly-formed AGTO Scotland’s first ever organised ship visit, was designed to promote Fred. Olsen’s range of group travel friendly cruises, departing from Rosyth (Edinburgh) in 2018.

Visitors were treated to a ‘Welcome Drinks’ reception, a guided tour of the ship (to view the cabins and public rooms) and a fantastic hot buffet lunch, before 929-guest ship Braemar sailed on to Dundee the following day.

Ellie Fulcher, Sales Manager for Groups for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “Our guests had a wonderful day and enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about our diverse range of sailings from Scotland for groups: from five-night cruises to Norway, to the epic 14-night sailing to Scandinavia and St Petersburg.

“As winners of the ‘Best Cruise Line Operator for Groups’, by readers of the Group Travel Organiser magazine for the past seven years, new and established groups booking a Fred. Olsen cruise can be confident that they will be well-looked after from start to finish.”

Joining the Fred. Olsen team was Mike Bugsgang, Chief Executive of AGTO, who said: “Whilst berthed in the Port of Leith, Braemar proved the perfect location for AGTO Scotland’s first ever event.

“Further AGTO Scotland events are planned for later in the year and discussions will take place with VisitScotland and other AGTO members in the country regarding a programme for 2018.”

He added that the turnout from group travel organisers was ‘excellent’ thanks to the arrangements made by attendee David Urquhart Travel’s Emma McMillan, who was recently appointed a Director of AGTO.

Fred. Olsen’s 1,350-guest flagship Balmoral is offering a range of cruise holidays for groups, departing from Rosyth between May and July 2018. These include the L1814 nine-night ‘German Waterways’ cruise, sailing on 31st May, theseven-night L1817 ‘Diamonds, Chocolates and Canals’ sailing, departing on 30th June, and the L1818 five-night ‘Scottish Isles with a Taste of Norway’ cruise, departing on 7th July.

Groups are welcome on all Fred. Olsen cruises and, depending on the size of the group, they may be eligible for a choice of ‘added value’ benefits. Fred. Olsen's bespoke groups’ service appeals to all types of groups, including family and friendship groups, corporate and incentive groups, and all kinds of clubs, associations and societies.

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
